113. An innocent witch (1965)
Country: Japan
Directed by Heinosuke Gosho
In Japanese cinema, the figure of the young woman that gets sexually and emotionally exploited, taking on her shoulders the 'sins' of everyone , enduring the violence and misogynism of society sacrificing herself, is very common. In this case Heinosuke Gosho through the story of an innocent girl that is sold by her parents to a brothel and latter been accused of been possessed by evil spirits, bringing death to her customers, is making a lot of comments about the economical and ethical status of pre-war Japan. Even if his critic is not going deep to challenge the social structure and is a strong mysticism in the movie that makes you think about the fate as a factor that determines the human lives, the social reality that is depicted in the movie speaks by itself
