43. The runner (1985)

Country: Iran
Directed by Amir Naderi

Although has a style close to neorealism the movie is quite symbolic: the street boy who struggles to survive and succeed is the new Iran ,who tries to move ahead leaving behind the poverty and the misery. 'The runner' ,more than anything else , is a propaganda film that almost offers naively the self determination and the hard work as a way to overcome the social obstacles : this is a good reason , especially when the movie getting closer to the end and gets more simplistic , for someone to dislike it. I include it though in the list not only because has so many memorable moments - the scene when the children try to collect as many bottles they can is classic- but also because this movie, together with a few others , set the style for all the famous Iranian movies that followed : realism, outside shots, social problems ,child characters, optimism
